A brief history of our relationship.

Cyd: Mike and I meet on Bumble. He is the only person who understands my humor, takes charge, and plan a proper date. But he makes me wait a whole week to meet.

Mike: I tell my Lyft driver on the way to pick Cyd up that I am going on a first date. We make a joke that he could be the catalyst to something special. He keeps giving me advice as he could probably tell that I was a little nervous. Once we pick her up my nerves are immediately calmed. I have never gotten along with someone so much in my life. It also helps that she is a cutie 🙂

Cyd: I call my sister and tell her I met an amazing guy but I want to take it slow, stay single, and have #hotgirlsummer.

Mike: I go to Vegas with my roommates and tell anybody that would listen to me that I met my future wife. Cydney has made it very clear that she wants a “hot girl summer” and that she would like to take things slow, but seems annoyed when I agree.

Cyd: I am annoyed Mike hasn’t asked me to be his girlfriend yet.

Mike: I am now confused because Cydney has asked me why I haven’t officially asked her to be my girlfriend. So I ask her and she makes me the luckiest guy this side of the 101.

June 2021
Mike: Cydney and I have been spending every single day together. The thought of spending over a week without her is just too much for me. Plus I am very close with my family, so it’s important to me that she meet them sooner than later. After making sure it is okay with my father, I ask Cydney to come on my family vacation trip with me and buy her a ticket to join.

Cyd: I can’t believe that this man wants me to travel to and meet his family (and stay with them for an entire week!) so soon—I say yes anyways and have an amazing time.

October 2021
Cyd: Mike is spending every night at my apartment, and I hate the idea of him signing a new lease for an entire year elsewhere. So I ask him to move in with me.

Mike: This is a very bittersweet moment for me. The thought of not having my roommates around is the end of an era. Plus I’ve never officially lived with a woman before but Cyd has quickly become my best friend.

Cyd: We’re about to go on vacation and my dad is flying in to pet sit. Mike is being odd, insisting that he pick my dad up so I can take my time getting ready for our trip.

Mike: Cyd’s Dad’s flight keeps getting delayed and I am freaking out. How many times can I ask Cydney where her dad is before she thinks I have some weird obsession? Luckily I am able to pick him up and have the conversation that I need to have.

August 15, 2023
Mike: I am SWEATING. I’ve insisted on wearing thick clothing and it is warm outside. I put the ring in my pocket and it bulges out. I put it in my back pocket and I look ridiculous. She will know what is happening the second she sees this. I ask her for her fanny pack, which is something I’d never do but it is my only option.

I know that I want to do this in a secluded area and the Palace is absolutely packed. I keep herding Cydney into little pockets of the garden trying to find the perfect spot. Eventually I see my opening and I take it. Cydney has officially made me the luckiest man alive.

Cyd: Mike is acting like a lunatic. He insists on changing into long pants and a knitted shirt even though it’s over 80 degrees. He offers to carry a bag—I don’t think that man has ever carried a bag before in his life.

As the day progresses, it becomes more and more obvious what’s coming. I’m excited and nervous as we walk through the gardens at the Palace of Versailles. We find ourselves in a corner in of the garden alone where Mike get’s down on one knee. Because of the heat, my fingers are swollen so I have to help him get the ring on. We’re all giggles. And I’m very proud of myself for not sobbing.
